The traditional model of school extracurricular activities(Bukatsu), a long-standing part of Japanese culture, is now changing. With updates to the national curriculum, the way children learn is also shifting.
In Japan, Bukatsu have given all children—regardless of their financial situation, home environment, or abilities—opportunities to engage in sports, culture, and the arts. These experiences can shape their character and become lifelong assets. However, before focusing on technical skills, it is crucial to help adolescents develop as people, as they are still physically and emotionally immature.
Especially in private sports sectors, short-term outcomes have often been the focus, with children simply following directions. But meaningful growth happens when they are encouraged to think for themselves and take ownership of their learning.
Through years of international experience, we have witnessed the transformative power of this approach. Our greatest strength lies in developing coaches who not only teach skills, but also nurture independent thinking—because empowering children in this way is what true sports education should be about.
Training the sports coaches needed in today’s new era to change sports education in Japan.
With this vision in mind, we established “Future Sports Consulting (FSC), a General Incorporated Association,” to drive meaningful change.
